Safeguarding

How to raise a concern about safety, abuse or neglect.

Last updated: 29 September 2026

Immediate danger

Call 999 if someone is in immediate danger or needs emergency help. Do not wait for an email reply. For a non-emergency police matter, call 101.

Contact the project

For a non-urgent concern about our activities, email dnbrehab@protonmail.com with the subject “Safeguarding concern”, or speak to the session tutor. Give a safe way for the project to contact you. Keep the first message brief and do not attach case files.

The project inbox is not monitored continuously and is not an emergency service.

Report directly to an independent service

You can report abuse or neglect directly to the appropriate local authority or police. You do not need permission from Rehab Recordz CIC. This includes concerns about the person running the project, or if you do not feel safe raising a concern with us.

Use the Birmingham safeguarding reporting page for adult safeguarding, concerns about a person in a position of trust, and child safeguarding routes. If the person lives elsewhere, contact their local authority.

Respect and boundaries

Our funded DJ course is for adults aged 18 and over. We aim to provide a respectful space free from abuse, exploitation, harassment and discrimination. We offer music and community learning activities, not therapy, medical treatment or crisis care.

People should not be pressured to disclose their recovery story, accept unwanted contact or agree to photos and recordings. Staff, volunteers and participants must respect personal boundaries.

How concerns will be handled

We will listen, take the concern seriously, consider immediate safety and record relevant facts. We will consider the person’s wishes and explain next steps where it is safe to do so. We will not promise absolute confidentiality or investigate suspected crimes ourselves.

Information will be shared only where necessary and lawful with people or services who need it. There may be circumstances where a concern must be shared without consent to protect someone or meet a legal duty.

Community activities

General volunteers must not handle discarded needles or sharps. Report them through appropriate trained or authorised services. Participants should follow the safety instructions for each activity and tell the tutor about a safety concern.

For a service complaint that does not involve abuse or immediate safety, see our complaints procedure.
